While the first thing that catches your eye is the light’s unique form, Geekoto backs that up with flexibility and advanced performance features. The ring light has variablecolor temperature from 3300 to 5600K to blend seamlessly with other fixtures or to meet ambient light conditions without the burden of applying filters. Light intensity is also adjustable steplessly from 10-100% with a simple twist of a knob. While you can make these adjustments locally on the fixture, you can also make them wirelessly at distances up to 26′ via the included remote control. While most light fixtures have a degree of directionality to allow selective lighting, the Geekoto Ring Light has a wide beam spread, bathing your subject in soft, flattering, and nearly shadowless light that is very kind to skin tones.

It’s when you place a camera lens or smart device into the center of the 18″ ring light, via the included smartphone holder, the that it shows its true nature. You can use it combined with harder light sources to create a soft fill light, and since the light dims from 10-100%, you won’t have to jockey the fixture around to obtain the required level of light. When it is used alone its signature characteristics emerge – soft light on the face, head, and shoulders, for instance, with sharp shadows cast exactly behind the body. The circular catchlights reflected in your subject’s eyes also have a striking effect, especially up close.

While the ring light is ready for worldwide use thanks to the inclusion of an AC adapter, you can also use two NP-F-type batteries when AC power is unavailable. To top it all off Geekoto includes a 6′ light stand and a carrying case for storage and transport.
